PROVISIONAL REGISTRATION OF SHIPS

 

Requirements:

 

 

  • Confirmation that the vessel is fully owned by the client, free from encumbrances, as well as a faxed copy of the Bill of Sale from the last registered owner to the client accompanied by a copy of a transcript/extract of register from the previous flag would normally suffice.

 

  • A faxed copy of the current International Tonnage Certificate 69.

 

  • A fax message from the Classification Society of the vessel, addressed to the Registrar of Maltese Ships (+356 21 241460) copied to this office as well (+356 21 246108). This should indicate:

          - The current name and class ID Number

          - The IMO Number

          - The Class Notation held by the vessel

          - The validity dates of all the statutory certificates (LL,

            SOLAS and IOPP)

 

  • Specification of any exemptions and/or conditions and/or recommendations issued to the vessel both in terms of her class and in terms of international conventions. It is essential that class gives clear indications, even if no such exemptions and/or conditions and/or recommendations exist.

 

  • If a new name is required for the vessel, it is advisable to have the proposed name approved and reserved (cost LM 5)

 

  • A faxed copy of the current DOC Certificate held in terms of the ISM Code by the intended technical managers for the ship type.

 

  • For tankers only, a faxed copy of the Blue Card issued by the P+I Club

 

  • The AAIC No of the Accounting Authority to be entrusted with the handling of radio traffic accounts for the vessel

 

  • Funds

 

  • Written instructions to proceed with the provisional registration of the vessel.


NB  Please note that all officers intended to serve on board should apply for the Maltese Endorsement of their national Certificates of Competency in terms of the STCW 78 Convention, as amended.
